Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends family football scholarship with volunteering for the community. First of all Selmon was brought up with Lucious as well as Jessie Selmon on an agricultural property near Eufala in Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. He played second in football and was the third brother who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. For the three seasons that Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In his role as an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was given an award for his third year in the year 1975. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began an entrepreneurial career. By 1988, he became an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of Ten of America's top young males. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in the year 1975. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as the associate director of sports. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
