Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a speaker. Feminist Frequency is a web site with video and an online blog on the representation of female characters in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource to educate women about their role in the narratives of pop culture It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. She also serves as the executive director. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding the targeted and sexist assaults on women and other minorities in online spaces she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes in the popular culture. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in the field of Social and Political thought from York University, is a sought after public speaker. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the University. The determined lady had planned to start a web-based series examining the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The woman was not stopped by the harassment, the fact is that it only bolstered her determination to be feminist and media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women in popular cultural stories.
