Heidi Watney was born May 19th, 1981. She is an American sportscaster. She graduated from the University of San Diego and was a sportscaster for various stations, including Time Warner Cable SportsNet, New England Sports Network in Boston, Time Warner Cable SportsNet Los Angeles, and two stations in Fresno. Watney attended Clovis West High School in Fresno where she competed in gymnastics, hurdles, diving and cheerleading. [1] She was an National Merit Scholar and attended the University of San Diego on an academic scholarship. There, she graduated with distinction in 2003. Watney participated in Miss California USA 2002, where she was the first third place. Watney is the cousin of professional golfer Nick Watney. 7 Andy Weir claimed that he used Watney ?Ts surname in the creation of the character Mark Watney in his science fiction novel The Martian. This was after hearing her name on a Red Sox game broadcast. Watney was featured in the music video of Dropkick Murphys' "Going Out in Style" single. She also appeared as a reporter in the sideline of the games on video MLB The Show 19, MLB The Show20 MLB The Show20, and MLB The Show 21, respectively. [10]
